FAA Approves Boeing’s 737 MAX Production Increase

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has approved Boeing to increase the production rate of its 737 MAX aircraft. The manufacturer will now be able to produce up to 42 jets per month.
Previously, following an incident in January 2024 involving an Alaska Airlines 737 MAX 9 in which a door panel blew out mid-flight, the FAA had limited production to 38 aircraft per month. The lifting of that cap is seen as a sign that Boeing has made significant improvements to its manufacturing quality and safety control processes.
According to The Seattle Times, FAA Administrator Bryan Bedford called Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg on October 17, 2025, to inform him that the company could raise its output to 42 aircraft per month. The FAA stated that its direct oversight of Boeing would remain unchanged despite the increase in production.
